No Washing for 3 Days:
After getting your hair colored, avoid washing it for at least 2-3 days. This gives your color time to set and prevents it from fading too quickly.
Lower Heat (320 Degrees Max):
When using heat tools like curling irons or straighteners, keep the temperature around 320°F or lower. High heat can damage color-treated hair and cause your color to fade faster, while lower heat helps preserve the vibrancy of your color.
Use Lukewarm Water:
Hot water opens up the hair cuticle, which can lead to color loss. Wash your hair with lukewarm or cool water to help keep your color intact and your hair cuticle smooth and sealed.
Good-Quality Salon Shampoo + Conditioner:
Only use sulfate-free, color-safe shampoo and conditioner from a professional salon brand. These products are designed to protect your color, prevent fading, and maintain your hair's health.
Avoid Over-Washing:
The more you wash your hair, the faster the color will fade. Try to wash your hair 2-3 times a week, or less if possible.
Heat Protectant is a Must:
Before styling with any heat tools, always use a heat protectant spray or serum. It forms a barrier that shields your hair from the damaging effects of heat, keeping your color looking fresh.
Use a Color-Depositing Shampoo:
For added maintenance, consider using a color-depositing shampoo (especially reds and coppers)
Protect Your Hair From Sun Exposure:
UV rays can fade color and dry out your hair. Use a UV-protectant hair spray or wear a hat when you’re out in the sun for long periods, especially if you have lighter blonde shades.
Avoid Chlorine and Saltwater:
Chlorine and saltwater can damage color-treated hair, so if you’re swimming, wet your hair with fresh water beforehand and apply a leave-in conditioner to create a protective barrier. Rinse and condition your hair immediately afterward.
Sleep on a Silk or Satin Pillowcase:
Sleeping on a silk or satin pillowcase reduces friction, preventing your hair from getting tangled, frizzy, or damaged. This also helps preserve your freshly colored hair, keeping it smooth and shiny.
Get Regular Trims:
Even if you’re focused on maintaining your color, regular trims are essential to prevent split ends and keep your hair looking fresh. Trim every 6-8 weeks to avoid dull, frayed ends.
Don't Touch Your Hair Too Much:
Constantly touching or running your hands through your hair can transfer oils and dirt, leading to buildup and faded color. Try to keep your hands off to keep your color and style intact.
