Blonding homecare

Remember all lightening services cause damage - our goal is to minimize the amount of damage caused and keep your hair in the same condition you walked in with. Home maintenance is one of the BIGGEST parts of going lighter and brighter and can make or break your hair health post service.

Recommended Tips and Tricks:

  • No washing for 3 days minimum

  • High quality repairing and moisturizing shampoos. See below for recommended products.

  • Wet hair = easily breakable hair, the longer you leave your hair wet like while air drying - the more susceptible it is to damage. Use a blow dryer and good leave in/heat protectant to dry your hair after showering.

  • Minimize washing to 2 to 3x per week to help prevent dryness.

  • Baby trims every other appointment/every appointment

  • Limit blonding services to a minimum of 6 weeks between appointments.

  • Limit purple shampoo! Opt for an in salon Gloss + Blowout instead. Purple shampoo used sparingly is ok (once a month, etc) but it can cause dryness and dullness of your blonde.

SUMMER

  • Protect Before Swimming: Wet your hair and apply a leave-in conditioner or regular conditioner before getting in chlorine or saltwater. This helps prevent it from soaking up damaging chemicals.

  • Rinse and Treat: After swimming, rinse your hair with cool water to remove chlorine or salt, then shampoo and condition well. Treat your hair to a deep conditioning mask once a week to restore moisture.

  • Use UV Protection: Just like skin, your hair needs sunscreen too. Use hair products with UV filters or a UV-protectant spray to prevent sun damage and color fade.

  • Wear a Hat: A wide-brimmed hat keeps your hair shaded from the sun and helps prevent dryness and fading.

  • Keep Heat Styling to a Minimum: Embrace your natural texture! Try to avoid heat styling, but if you do, always use a heat protectant.

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water! Hydrated hair starts from the inside.

  • Tie Your Hair Loosely: If you're tying it up, use a soft silk or satin hair tie to prevent breakage.

  • Protect Wet Hair: Don't leave wet hair in the sun for too long—it’s more prone to damage.

winter

Winter can be tough on blonde hair, but with the right care, you can keep your locks looking healthy and vibrant. Here are some simple tips for winter hair care:

  1. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
Cold air and dry indoor heat can zap moisture. Use a hydrating shampoo and conditioner, and deep condition weekly to keep your blonde hair soft and nourished.

  2. Skip the Hot Showers
Hot water can dry out your hair and scalp. Wash with lukewarm water to preserve moisture and avoid stripping natural oils.

  3. Trim Regularly
Blonde hair shows damage more easily, so get regular trims to keep ends healthy and prevent split ends.

  4. Switch to Silk or Satin Pillowcases
Silk and satin cause less friction, preventing tangles and keeping your blonde hair smoother and shinier while you sleep.

  5. Limit Heat Styling
Winter hair is more fragile, so try to minimize the use of hot tools. If you must, always use a heat protectant to shield your hair.

  6. Use a Leave-In Conditioner
Keep a leave-in conditioner on hand to give your hair extra moisture throughout the day and protect against dry indoor air.

  7. Nourish Your Scalp
Dry, flaky scalp? Usually conditioner on scalp is a no-no but we recommend doing this during the winter when your scalp needs some extra moisture.

  8. Stay Hydrated
Don’t forget to drink water! Hydrated skin and hair go hand in hand, so make sure you’re drinking enough.
